Local vegans from Action for Animals and VegAustin.com participated in an action-packed week during SXSW's music fest, distributing free vegetarian information and vegan baked goods for charity at three BrooklynVegan day parties at three live music venues.
Our outreach table gained hundreds of SXSW visitors who picked up our vegetarian starter guides, VegAustin.com restaurant guides, vegan recipes, and vegan baked goods. We were excited by all the vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious people at the BrooklynVegan shows who visited our table and supported our animal activism.
Our largest bake sale, coordinated by Austin vegan food blogger Lazy Smurf was filled with mouth-watering vegan cupcakes, cookies, brownies, bars, and more that were a huge hit with indie music fans at SXSW. In total, we raised over $800 from bake sale donations, which will go to Food For Life Global, a vegan/vegetarian food relief organization assisting earthquake victims in Haiti and Chili.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, baked, or visited our outreach table during SXSW! A special thanks goes to BrooklynVegan for putting together some of the best SXSW events and letting us get in on the fun. We were delighted that BV brought in local businesses Daily Juice, Mr. Natural, NadaMoo! and Izzoz Tacos who gave out free vegan food at their shows. And a special thanks to Compassion Over Killing for providing us with terrific outreach materials that help save animal lives.

Congrats, Daniela. You and everyone else worked so hard on these events. It was really 3 events in one week. That's a huge amount of work and coordinating. Our last day of outreach was last Saturday when it was 45 degrees outside, which is where we were: outside in 45 degree weather for 5 hours!!! Ugh!!! Anyway, great job, to you and Chris, and Errol and Kelly, and Vegan Smurff. Thx to the very nice BrooklynVegan for letting us set up at his shows.
