About Me

Hi! My name is Chris and I have been involved in animal rights issues since I went vegetarian in 1993. My activism has gone up and down over the years but I have recently made a commitment to get more involved.

My other passions are yoga, vegan baking, my nieces, our amazing dog Diego and traveling.

PETA - love them or hate them?

Today I participated in a PETA demonstration called 'Meat is Murder' at Sixth and Congress from noon to 1pm.  The setup was one I have heard about PETA doing in other cities.  Two very skantily clad women (wearing only nude colored underwear) covered in red paint, laying in meat trays and wrapped in plastic wrap.  The scene is meant to represent that flesh is the same whether it is human or animal and it is...

Animal Rights Conference 2010

Next month I am attending the Animal Rights conference in Washington DC.  I have been wanting to check out this event for a few years and finally decided to go for it!  The conference prides itself on presenting all different points of view (welfare, abolition and all points in between) with the end goal of animal liberation.  I am curious to meet people and hear speakers that are working towards the goals we share. Some...

Thanks!  I will be there on Friday with my two vegan boys. :)

Hola! I don't know how to call attention to my "blog" (so green at this) but please check it out and "vote" in the poll and if you have time please take action : )

Hey Chris, Thanks so much for coming out to the benefit for the Austin Zoo! $300 + a shovel is pretty good. Chadd Thomas is quite the backwoods act and I don't agree with some of the silly things he says BUT I consider people like these a challenge and a good place to practice the "more flys with honey" approach if you know what I mean. I used to go in for the kill with force but I just turned more people off - now I'm working on sneaky ; )

BTW - Eric and I stopped in at a place called "The Garden District" on S. Congress..it's a coffeehouse kinda surrounded by the Great Outdoors Plant nursery - Anyway they offer some good vegan eats AND it was suggested I try the gluten-free chocolate truffle - DEVINE!

hey- thanks for turning me on to this. i think its a great organzation, and i've been wanting to get involved with something for so long. why not now?! : )

OOPS-the library meeting on Tuesday night is NOT at City Hall-but at a library. So I guess we can just meet there

This is going to be a stupid question, but what is the USDA. Does it mainly deal with animal slaughter or are there other parts to it also? When I think of USDA, I think of meat products.

A vegan potluck would be fun! Sunday days are usually my most open and I have been wanting to come to one of these for a while now (or have one?). I have a good New Mexico enchilada dish I'd like to alter. July is cooked for me but August and onward a bit easier to navigate.

Hi Chris! This is such a cool network...much better than My Space since it has a great purpose! I wish I could attend the Ringling protest but I will be out of town...but alas I will leaflet as I go. I mostly stay busy playing with Eric's band but I have a cool gig coming up - I am doing a benefit for the Austin Zoo...they are a non-profit sanctuary so it is a good cause. Please come out if you can. All info is below. P.S. I really want to try your vegan chocolate cupcakes!

BENEFIT for the AUSTIN ZOO

WHEN: Sat. Aug. 1st 8pm-1am

WHERE: Carousel Lounge (ironically circus themed - it was one of the Jack Ruby bars of yore)

BANDS: Eve Monsee's & The Exiles, Chadd Thomas & The Swing Kings, Chrissy Flatt & The Sharpshooters

COST: $5 sugg. donation and/or blankets, towels, tarps, sheets, toys, shovels, rakes, bowls

ABOUT THE AUSTIN ZOO

With more than 300 animals across more than 100 different species, Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary is a private, non-profit zoo rescuing animals and serving the Austin community. Situated in the beautiful Hill Country just outside of town, Austin Zoo is visited by hundreds of thousands of individuals each year.  The Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary is a pleasant Hill Country zoo experience where you can see the animals close-up, spend some time outdoors getting exercise, and have fun. It's a place where our Austin community can truly make the most of their time together.
