This was unexpected and has put a smile on my face for the whole week. The Cove, the documentary about the yearly slaughter of dolphins in a cove on the Japanese coast, received great critical reviews but its subject matter made it disappear from movie houses very quickly upon release. I was surprised that it was nominated due to its gruesome subject and because of its animal rights slant. It was nominated alongside other great and compelling nominees: Food Inc, (not as gruesome but favored to win, by some), Burma VJ (about the 2007 buddhist monk uprising in Burma) , Which Way Home (about Mexican children crossing into the U.S. alone and illegally), and The Most Dangerous Man in America (about Daniel Ellsberg, the Pentagon official who secretly released 7000 pages of classified U.S. documents about the Vietname War).
The Cove is now on DVD at your local movie rental store.

AWESOME!!! I got notification from an e-mail from SACA that they will be joining University Vegetarians for a screening of THE COVE sometime in April. I will post more as I hear further details. I'm scared to watch the film but feel more comforted watching it with fellow activists :)))
